DESIGN COMMENTS:
12.6m Wavepiercer Catamaran
The craft is intended to fulfil the role of a high quality, privately
operated motor yacht, capable of operating in coastal conditions and supporting
up to six guests. The boat was originally drawn at just over 11m length
overall with a water-jet drive. The vessel subsequently grew to 12.6m
and is now conventional shaft driven submerged propellers. The powering
is supplied by twin marinsed Toyota Landcruiser diesel engines. The vessel
will eventually incorporate a lifting platform at the aft end to launch
and retrieve a large jetski.
The boat is being built by the owner, a New Zealander based in Christchurch.
The build is well under way as shown on the photos at the end of this page.
The boat will be swing moored in the Marlborough Sounds and will be used
for bottom fishing, for diving and general entertainment.
The accomodation comproses a big king-size cabin up forward with another
two cabins – either twin or double in each hull. There is full standing
headroom in throughout. There is a large comfortable shared wheelhouse/dinette/galley
and a 2.5m long , full beam cockpit, plus separate head and shower compartments.
An external ladder provides access to an upper level flying bridge / sun
bathing area.
