15m Power / Sailing Yacht

Craig Loomes Design Group has worked in close colaboration with Powersail New Zealand Ltd to deliver this truly radical new concept. The vessel has been developed to sail and motor at 18 knots. She incorporates many novel features including dynamic trim control, lifting keel, water ballast, a completely retractable propulsion unit and full standing headroom. All control systems are set up for short-handed use.

The interior option shown above is set up to accomodate up to 3 couples and 2 crew. A fully appointed galley, home theatre / library, workshop, stern lazarette and large cockpit complement the extensive living areas.

Building begun in March 2005 at Calibre Boat's Yard in NZ.

Large scale model testing has been concluded using CLD's mobile towing rig. The reults have confirmed the powering requirements and operational speeds for both the 15m and 20m versions of this novel vessel. A video of the 2.7m long model being towed, using our calibrated load cell and real time data logging equipment at an equivalent full scale speed of 17 and 19 knots, is available for download by clicking here - (file size = 1Mb).
