DESIGN COMMENTS:
33m Motor Yacht
Produced as a speculative design study, this attractive 33m motor yacht
design from Craig Loomes Design Group has already generated significant
interest from offshore.
Conceived as a performance cruiser based predominantly in Australian,
New Zealand and South Pacific waters, the boat appears to be winning worldwide
appeal. Echoing the striking superstructure lines of the 26m wavepiercer
Ultimate Lady, the styling carries very comfortably into the monohull format
and creates a distinctively elegant motor yacht.
A genuine four deck motor yacht, she was designed to fulfil a number
of functions, and would serve as a very comfortable long range family cruiser
or as corporate entertainment suite with equal aplomb.
Particular emphasis was placed on achieving seamless indoor/outdoor
flow, with large, comfortable living spaces and an open, airy feel.
The general arrangement is faithful to this brief, with large al fresco
dining areas, comfortable saloon and family room and a well thought out
and versatile aft deck arrangement. Overnight accommodation includes
a full beam master suite and four guest cabins, each with ensuite bathroom.
A double captain’s cabin is located immediately behind the bridge station
and separate crew quarters are also included.
Perhaps a little unusually for a vessel of these proportions, but considered
necessary given her performance requirements, the hull is a planing form
with fully submerged chines ensuring a quiet nights sleep for her occupants.
Powered by twin 1800hp diesels, this will be a genuine 30 knot vessel with
35,000 litre fuel tanks ensuring ocean crossing range capabilities and
enhancing the versatility of the concept.
With the planing form demanding careful attention to the overall weight
of the boat, initial structural design work has focussed on moderately
advanced composite construction with linear foam cores, epoxy resin and
stitched E-glass and aramid (Kevlar) reinforcements providing very tough,
impact tolerant and low maintenance structures.
